All international commercial passenger flights will remain suspended until April 14, aviation regulator DGCA announced Thursday amid a national blockade to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) announced on March 19 that there will be no international commercial operations of commercial passenger flights in India from 1.30 am on March 23 to 5.30 am on March 29.

"In the continuation of circular II of 19.3.2020 issued on the aforementioned subject, it has been decided that all scheduled international commercial passenger services will remain closed until 1830 GMT (0000 hours Indian Standard Time) of April 14, 2020, "said the aviation regulator.

"However, this restriction will not apply to international cargo and flight operations specifically approved by the DGCA," he said.

The government suspended operations of domestic passenger flights from midnight on March 24.

There are 649 positive cases of coronavirus in the country and 13 people have died from this so far, according to the Union health ministry.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced a total blockade across the country for 21 days starting at midnight on Tuesday, stating that this is necessary for a decisive battle against the coronavirus.
